Detailed description of the project

The context of this project is to enhance the economic and social development of Burundi in a sustainable manner, so as to harmoniously integrate the country into the global economy though means of poverty alleviation.

The Post-Conflict Rural Development Project targets the balanced, sustainable increase of revenue in the rural sector, through the vehicle of reinforcing public institutions and rural sector stakeholders. This is to complement existing private initiatives -namely, producer associations- whose competences should be broadened through awareness raising actions, workshops, and support measures, so as to professionalise and subsequently improve the quality of producer organisations' activity and position to defend own interests.

The project results are:

  • Identification and assessment of all existing producers organisations; categorisation, aiming to professionalise; investigation of the most suitable approaches for support actions and determining the roles of partners;
  • Determining the suitable Support framework for optimal implementation in the intervention zone;
Organisation and execution of a Workshop, with the scope of validating the assessment of producers organisations, presenting the Support framework, and launching the first stage of support activities to be undergone in the pre-selected regions of intervention
